As part of activities marking the Golden Jubilee Celebration of the Africa Hall, a summit for High school girls dubbed “Young Lady for Tomorrow’s Ghana” has been held.
Dr. Marian Nkansah in her welcome address stated that the summit is to encourage young girls in Kumasi to stay in school and to follow their dreams as they can also make it to tertiary institutions.
She revealed that the Hall had earlier started activities after the Launch of the Celebrations in June last year. She outlined some of the activities as leadership seminars, family aerobics, fun games, donation to Paediatric and Cancer Unit of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. She said the 50th Anniversary Celebration themed: “50 Years of Women Education and Empowerment in Nation Building” will be climaxed in March, 2018.
Mrs. Ama Duncan, a Corporate Trainer and Chief Executive Officer of the Fabulous Woman network, exposed participants to the benefits of using social media. Mrs. Duncan encouraged them to use social media to network and look for good opportunities and partnerships.
She however, cautioned the girls against using social media for disseminating inappropriate content as most corporate institutions visit the profiles of job applicants before recruiting.
Efe Amanor, a Broadcaster at Nhyira FM, challenged the girls to be respectful and to appreciate the sacrifices of their parents in giving them the privilege of education.
Mrs. Amanor lamented how the youth of today are in a hurry to get riches without hard work and stated that success is the product of long suffering.
Special Guest of Honour, Her Royal Highness, Lady Julia Osei Tutu, wife of the Asantehene, advised the girls to listen to the advice of elderly people and to submit to authority. Lady Julia cautioned them against premarital sex, drug abuse and envy which can mar their future.
She also advised them to be content with what their parents provide for them and to adopt good financial habits at young age.
